Many of our customers come to us having previous experience using a laser machine. Most often, they have used one of the lower-powered engraving machines manufactured by Epilog, Universal, or Xenetech. Often, they are trying to cut thicker materials or achieve greater throughput but are not getting the results they want due to the low laser power, small bed size or lack of precision in these machines. Laser Engravers were made to engrave, and they do a very good job at it. But cutting with these machines can be problematic and result in charred, melted edges that aren’t of an acceptable quality.
BEAM started with the goal of making a reasonably priced, light-industrial laser cutting machine that would be flexible enough to cut a wide range of materials–from scoring a piece of paper to cutting titanium – with high quality results on all materials. Our machines are designed first and foremost to be able to cut high quality parts that will require minimal post processing.
When we talk about the speed of cutting or the thickness of material, we’re only talking about parts cut with precise edges that will not require any additional processing. Laser machines can go faster or cut thicker materials, but the cost of doing these things is the quality of the cut.
