New lightweight, fiber reinforced polymers are difficult to machine with conventional cutting tools. This has led many users to the non-contact cutting capabilities of a laser. Thin, uncured pre-prep sheets in thickness up to 0.5mm can be precisely trimmed or sized at very high speeds, and you do not have to worry about gumming up a cutting tool. The heat from the laser’s cutting action fuses the edges, thus preventing fraying of the fibers.

THE BEAM DIFFERENCE

Thicknesses of materials include up to ¼" for fiberglass, ¼" for phenolic and ¾" for Corian.

Beam Dynamics uses computer generated cutting paths to make it incredibly easy and inexpensive for cutting jobs of any size. No dies or expensive re-tooling is necessary when cutting parts, meaning you can increase profits on short runs. With a faster turn-around and lower costs, you'll be able to take on more jobs, be more competitive, and ultimately bring in more customers and generate new business.

A BEAM laser cutting system is an important tool for producing parts from composites for many reasons, including:

  • Precise edges: Produces extremely precise edges directly from your file. Perfect for inlays and other applications where precision is a must.
  • Extremely low operating costs: The machine costs less than $1/hour to run and maintain.
  • Less material waste: Small kerfs give extremely precise cuts, resulting in a decrease in wasted materials.
  • Tool variability eliminated: Absolute repeatability with a tool that never dulls.
  • Zero tool load: Clamping, complex, or dangerous holding methods are not required when cutting with a weightless beam of light. This is also very helpful when cutting small parts.
  • The small tool cut width (kerf of .006") enables the cutting of any shape that can be drawn.
  • Power control: The system monitors the actual cutting speed and dynamically adjusts laser power as the speed changes to maintain consistent cut quality.
  • Auto Focus: A sensor automatically measures the material thickness and sets the focus appropriately so you don't have to do it by hand.
